Hand block printed, not machine printed

Bagru is a block printing tradition from Rajasthan. Carved wooden blocks are inked and pressed onto the cloth by hand, one impression at a time, the whole way along the fabric.

Red on ivory is the oldest pairing in Rajasthani block printing, and the one that shows the method most clearly — a strong colour on a pale ground leaves nowhere for an uneven impression to hide.

What to expect from hand printing

The repeat will not be mechanically exact. Some impressions sit heavier than others. The colour varies a little across the length.

That is the craft, not a flaw. A machine print would be perfectly uniform and would cost less. What you are paying for here is that a person made it.

No lining needed

The cotton is opaque enough to wear on its own — one less layer, one less line on the tailoring bill.

How to wash it

Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Dry in shade. Wash separately the first time.

Red on ivory is the combination that most needs that separate first wash — red releases readily and there is a pale ground right next to it with nothing to absorb it.

Who this suit is for

Everyday summer wear for someone who would rather own a craft than a product. It is also the more classic of our two bagru suits — red on ivory reads traditional where blue on cream reads quieter.

Not the one if you want uniformity, or if you are careless with pale cloth. An ivory ground shows everything.

Stitching is a separate service, charged on top of the fabric price. Message us with what you need and we will confirm the cost and the timeline. Stitched orders take 7–15 working days before dispatch.

Care

Hand wash only, cold water, mild detergent. Dry in shade — direct sun fades block print faster than anything else. Wash separately the first time. Iron on medium while slightly damp.
