Green Applique Cotton Suit

This is a green cotton suit with applique work, supplied as a 3-piece set with a matching cotton dupatta and a taffeta bottom. It is stitchable to your own measurement up to size 5XL.

What you receive

  • Shirt — cotton, 2.5 m
  • Dupatta — cotton, 2.5 m
  • Bottom — taffeta, 2.5 m
  • 3-piece unstitched set, 7.5 metres in total

The applique work

Applique is the technique of cutting shapes from one fabric and stitching them onto another to build a motif. It is slower work than printing or embroidery — each piece is cut, positioned and stitched down individually — and it gives a result you can feel as well as see: raised edges, layered texture, and a definition that no printed motif reproduces. Where embroidery adds thread to a surface, applique adds cloth to cloth, which is why an applique piece has more physical presence than a printed one at the same price.

Why this suit costs what it does

Applique work is the reason. The fabric is cotton, which is not an expensive base — what you are paying for is the labour in the surface work. If you have wondered why two cotton suits can sit at very different prices, this is usually the answer: it is the hours in the work, not the metres of cloth.

The fabric

The shirt and dupatta are cotton — breathable, soft against the skin, and comfortable through a long day. Cotton also holds applique well: it has enough body to support stitched-on fabric shapes without puckering, which a very fine or very soft fabric would struggle to do. The bottom is taffeta, which gives the stitched salwar or trouser a firmer drape.

Where to wear it

Green with applique reads festive but not formal — the texture does the work rather than shine or heavy embellishment. It suits a daytime wedding function, a mehendi or haldi, Rakhi, Navratri, a family celebration, a Gurudwara Sahib visit or a kitty party. Because the base is cotton rather than organza or silk, it stays wearable in heat in a way most occasion suits do not.

Stitching this suit

The suit is supplied unstitched, so the neckline, sleeve length and fit are yours to decide. It can be stitched up to size 5XL. With applique work, decide the placement with your tailor before cutting — the motifs are fixed on the fabric, so where they fall on the finished shirt depends entirely on how it is cut. StudioJazz offers a stitching service; share what you have in mind and we will discuss it with you. Unstitched orders are dispatched within 48 working hours; stitched orders take 7 to 15 working days depending on the work involved.

Care

Dry clean only. Applique is stitched fabric, so avoid ironing directly over the motifs and do not pull or wring the cloth — tugging can loosen the stitching that holds the shapes in place.

Shipping

Dispatched within 48 working hours of order confirmation and delivered across India in 3 to 7 business days. Free shipping on orders above Rs. 1,500 — this set qualifies. StudioJazz has shipped to 13 countries; international shipping is available on request.

A note on colour and work

Natural variation in colour, texture and applique placement is characteristic of this kind of work and is not a defect. Because applique is cut and stitched piece by piece, small differences between one suit and the next are inherent to the technique.

Frequently asked questions

What is applique work?

Applique is the technique of cutting shapes from one fabric and stitching them onto another to build a motif. It gives raised, layered texture rather than a flat printed surface.

How is applique different from embroidery?

Embroidery adds thread to a fabric. Applique adds fabric to fabric — cut shapes stitched down onto the base cloth — so the result has more physical presence and body.

Is this printed at all?

No. The decoration is applique work.

What are the pieces made of?

The shirt and dupatta are cotton. The bottom is taffeta.

What's included and how much fabric?

Three pieces: cotton shirt (2.5 m), taffeta bottom (2.5 m), cotton dupatta (2.5 m) — 7.5 metres in total.

Why does this cost more than a plain cotton suit?

The applique work. Each shape is cut, positioned and stitched individually, so the cost sits in the labour of the surface work rather than in the fabric.

Is this comfortable in summer?

The shirt and dupatta are cotton and breathable, which makes this more wearable in heat than an organza or silk occasion suit. The taffeta bottom is firmer and less airy.

Where will the applique motifs sit on my stitched suit?

That depends on how it is cut. The motifs are fixed on the fabric, so decide placement with your tailor before cutting begins.

Can this be stitched to my size?

It can be stitched up to size 5XL, and the neckline, sleeve length and fit are yours to choose.

Do you stitch it, and what does that cost?

Yes, StudioJazz offers stitching. Charges depend on the design and the amount of work involved — message us with what you have in mind and we will confirm the cost before you proceed.

How do I look after applique?

Dry clean only. Do not iron directly over the motifs, and avoid pulling or wringing the fabric, as tugging can loosen the stitching.

Do you ship internationally?

StudioJazz has shipped to 13 countries. International shipping is available on request — message us with your location before ordering.
