  • Bottom — cotton, 2.5 m
  • 3-piece unstitched set, 7.5 metres in total

What Kota cotton is

Kota is a fine open-weave cotton from Kota in Rajasthan. Its defining feature is the structure: the threads are woven in a way that leaves tiny square checks across the cloth, visible when you hold it to the light. That grid is called the khat, and it is what makes Kota recognisable by touch as much as by sight.

The open weave is also the point. Air passes straight through it, which makes Kota one of the coolest cottons you can wear in real heat — lighter on the body than a dense cotton of the same weight, and quick to dry.

White florals on lavender

The embroidery is worked in white on the lavender ground. It is a restrained pairing: white on a pale colour reads as texture rather than contrast, so you notice the shape of the flowers close up without the suit announcing itself from across a room.

Lace detailing runs alongside the embroidery. Together they give the shirt enough surface interest to carry an occasion while leaving the Kota weave visible, which a heavier, denser decoration would cover over entirely.

Lavender

Lavender is a soft, cool purple — gentler than a jamun or a deep violet, and uncommon enough in ethnic wear that it does not disappear into a room of reds and golds. It sits well with silver and oxidised jewellery, and it photographs cleanly in daylight where stronger purples can go flat.

Where to wear it

A daytime piece, and a genuinely hot-weather one. It suits a summer function, a family lunch, a mehendi or haldi, a Gurudwara Sahib visit, a kitty party, an office day or travel. Kota is the fabric to reach for when the event is outdoors and the day is long.

Stitching this suit

The suit is supplied unstitched, so the neckline, sleeve length and fit are yours to decide. It can be stitched up to size 5XL. One thing worth telling your tailor: Kota is a fine open weave and needs care at the seams — it holds a stitch well but does not forgive being unpicked and redone. Decide the fit before cutting rather than adjusting afterwards, and settle where the embroidery and lace should fall on the finished shirt. StudioJazz offers a stitching service; share what you have in mind and we will discuss it with you. Unstitched orders are dispatched within 48 working hours; stitched orders take 7 to 15 working days depending on the work involved.

Care

Gentle hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Do not wring or twist — an open weave distorts more easily than a dense one. Dry in shade rather than direct sun, and iron on a low heat, avoiding the embroidery and lace directly.

Shipping

Dispatched within 48 working hours of order confirmation and delivered across India in 3 to 7 business days. Free shipping on orders above Rs. 1,500 — this set qualifies. StudioJazz has shipped to 13 countries; international shipping is available on request.

A note on colour and work

Natural variation in colour, weave, embroidery and lace placement is characteristic of this kind of fabric and is not a defect. Placement on your piece may differ slightly from the photographs.

Frequently asked questions

What is Kota cotton?

Kota is a fine open-weave cotton from Kota in Rajasthan, woven so that tiny square checks run across the cloth. That grid is called the khat and it is what makes Kota recognisable.

Why is Kota good in heat?

The weave is open, so air passes straight through it. It sits lighter on the body than a dense cotton of the same weight and dries quickly.

Are the white florals printed or embroidered?

Embroidered. They are stitched in white thread on the lavender ground, not printed.

What are the three pieces made of?

The shirt and dupatta are Kota cotton. The bottom is cotton.

Can I wash this at home?

Yes. Gentle hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent, and dry in shade. Do not wring or twist the fabric.

Why should I not wring it?

Kota is an open weave, so the structure distorts more easily than a dense cotton. Press the water out rather than twisting.

Is Kota see-through?

It is a fine open weave, so a lining is worth discussing with your tailor depending on how you want the finished shirt to sit.

What's included and how much fabric?

Three pieces of 2.5 metres each — shirt, bottom and dupatta — 7.5 metres in total.

Can this be stitched to my size?

It can be stitched up to size 5XL, and the neckline, sleeve length and fit are yours to choose.

Do you stitch it, and what does that cost?

Yes, StudioJazz offers stitching. Charges depend on the design and the amount of work involved — message us and we will confirm the cost before you proceed.

Do you ship internationally?

StudioJazz has shipped to 13 countries. International shipping is available on request — message us with your location before ordering.
