Mustard Patola Print Organza Suit

This is a mustard organza suit with a patola print and embroidery, supplied as a 3-piece set with a matching organza dupatta and a santoon bottom. It is stitchable to your own measurement up to size 5XL.

What you receive

  • Shirt — organza, printed with embroidery, 2.5 m
  • Dupatta — organza, 2.5 m
  • Bottom — santoon, 2.5 m
  • 3-piece unstitched set, 7.5 metres in total

What a patola print is

Patola is a double-ikat weave from Patan in Gujarat, where both warp and weft threads are dyed to pattern before a single thread is woven. Getting the two to line up on the loom is among the most demanding things done in Indian textiles, and woven patola is priced accordingly.

This suit carries a patola print — that distinctive stepped geometry printed onto organza, not woven as double ikat. You get the visual language of the tradition at a price woven patola does not reach, and we would rather say that plainly than let the word imply something it isn't.

Patola geometry on organza

Patola patterns almost always appear on silk or cotton, where the cloth is opaque and the geometry sits flat and solid. On organza it behaves differently: the fabric is crisp and lightly sheer with a soft sheen, so the pattern catches light across its surface and lifts rather than lying flat.

Embroidery is worked over the print, which adds a raised layer the print alone would not give. The result has more depth than a printed suit usually does at this price.

Mustard

Mustard is a deep, warm yellow with a slightly earthy cast — richer than a lemon or haldi yellow, and one of the more forgiving festive colours to wear. It sits particularly well with gold jewellery and against the reds and maroons that dominate a wedding function, so you stand out without competing.

The fabric

The shirt and dupatta are organza — crisp and lightweight with a soft sheen, holding their shape rather than falling close to the body. That structure is what carries embroidery well: the fabric supports the weight of the stitching without pulling out of shape. The bottom is santoon, a soft, smooth fabric with an easy fall, which gives the stitched salwar or trouser a cleaner drape than organza would.

Organza is light, but it is less absorbent and less breathable than cotton or muslin. For a full day in real heat a cotton suit will be more comfortable; organza is the choice when you want structure and sheen.

Where to wear it

A festive piece. It suits a wedding function, a sangeet, Diwali, Navratri, Karva Chauth, a family celebration or a daytime function where you want to look properly dressed. Mustard photographs well in daylight, so it works as easily at a day event as an evening one.

Stitching this suit

The suit is supplied unstitched, so the neckline, sleeve length and fit are yours to decide. It can be stitched up to size 5XL. Organza is sheer, so most customers have the shirt stitched with a lining — and on mustard the lining shade will affect how warm the final colour reads. With a geometric print, a simpler cut usually works better; heavy panelling breaks the pattern's grid. StudioJazz offers a stitching service; share what you have in mind and we will discuss it with you.

Care

Dry clean only. Hang the suit rather than folding it, since organza creases and holds the crease. Never iron directly over the embroidery, and keep the suit away from rough jewellery and velcro that can snag the weave.

A note on colour and print

Natural variation in colour, print placement and embroidery is characteristic of this kind of fabric and is not a defect. Organza carries a sheen, so mustard can read warmer or cooler depending on the light you see it in.

Frequently asked questions

What is a patola print?

Patola is a double-ikat weave from Patan in Gujarat, with a distinctive stepped, geometric pattern. A patola print reproduces that geometry onto fabric.

Is this woven patola?

No. This is a patola print on organza, not a woven double-ikat patola, which is one of the most expensive textiles in India.

Is it printed or embroidered?

Both. The base carries a patola print, with embroidery worked over it.

What are the three pieces made of?

The shirt and dupatta are organza. The bottom is santoon.

What is santoon?

Santoon is a soft, smooth fabric with an easy fall, commonly used for the bottom of a suit because it stitches and drapes well.

Is organza comfortable in heat?

It is lightweight, but less absorbent and less breathable than cotton or muslin. For a long day in real heat a cotton suit will be more comfortable; organza is the choice when you want structure and sheen.

Does organza need a lining?

Organza is sheer, so most customers have the shirt lined. On mustard the lining shade will also affect how warm the final colour reads, so choose it with your tailor.

What's included and how much fabric?

Three pieces of 2.5 metres each — shirt, bottom and dupatta — 7.5 metres in total.

What cut suits a geometric print?

A simpler cut generally works better. Heavy panelling interrupts the grid of the pattern.

When will my order be dispatched?

Within 48 working hours of order confirmation. Orders placed on a Sunday or a public holiday are processed the next working day.

How long will delivery take?

3 to 7 business days across India once dispatched. So an unstitched order placed today typically reaches you within about a week.

Is shipping free?

Yes. Free shipping applies to prepaid orders of Rs. 3,000 and above, and this set qualifies.

Do you offer Cash on Delivery?

Yes, on orders up to Rs. 6,000 in value. A flat Rs. 150 shipping charge applies to COD orders.

Can this be stitched to my size?

It can be stitched up to size 5XL, and the neckline, sleeve length and fit are yours to choose.

Do you stitch it, and what does that cost?

Yes, StudioJazz offers stitching. Charges depend on the design and the amount of work involved — message us and we will confirm the cost before you proceed.

How do I look after organza?

Dry clean only. Hang rather than fold, since organza creases and holds the crease, and keep it away from rough jewellery and velcro that can snag the weave or catch the embroidery.

Do you ship internationally?

StudioJazz has shipped to 13 countries. International shipping is available on request — message us with your location before ordering.
