This is an all-black georgette suit with resham thread embroidery, supplied as a 3-piece set with an organza dupatta. The work is customised to your height, slit and flare before it is made. It can be stitched up to size 7XL, and is also available in brown.

Please note: this is an unstitched suit. You receive the fabric pieces, not a finished garment. Stitching is available as a separate service and is charged in addition.

The work is made for your body, not for a standard size

This is what separates Nazm from an ordinary unstitched suit. On most pieces the embroidery is already fixed on the cloth, and your tailor has to cut around wherever it happens to fall — which is why a border sometimes lands at an awkward height, or a motif disappears into a seam.

Here the work is done after you tell us what you want. Before we begin, we take:

• Your height — so the embroidery sits where it should on your frame rather than on an average one
• Slit length — short or long, and the work is placed to suit it
• How much flare you want — a narrow straight shirt and a wide flared one need the design laid out differently

A tall woman and a petite one ordering this design will not receive the same piece. Message us to talk it through before you order.

This piece is made after you order it, so it is dispatched within 7 working days rather than the 48 working hours that applies to our ready stock. Once dispatched, delivery across India takes a further 3 to 7 business days.

Customised orders cannot be returned or exchanged

Because the work on this piece is done to your own specification — your height, your slit, your flare — it cannot be resold to anyone else, so customised orders are not eligible for return or exchange. Stitchable to 7XL

Most unstitched suits stop at 5XL, and a great many stop well before that. This one goes to 7XL, and it is not an afterthought — the shirt piece is 3 metres rather than the usual 2.5, so the extra size comes from genuinely more fabric rather than from cutting a standard piece close.

That extra half-metre also gives you room for a longer shirt, a fuller hem or wider sleeves at any size. If you have ever had a tailor tell you there is not quite enough cloth for the length you wanted, this is the set that solves it.

The resham work

The embroidery is resham — thread work, stitched into the fabric so it moves with the cloth rather than sitting stiffly on top of it. On black, resham does something a sequin or a heavy zari cannot: it reads as texture and shadow rather than as shine, so the shirt has depth without catching light from across the room.

It is the difference between a black suit that announces itself and one that holds its detail until someone is close enough to see it.

Georgette, and why the dupatta is not

Georgette is a lightweight fabric with a slightly grainy surface and a beautiful fluid drape — it falls close to the body and moves as you move, which is why it suits a longer, flowing silhouette. Both the shirt and the bottom are georgette here, so the stitched suit hangs as one piece rather than the top and bottom behaving differently.

The dupatta is organza instead. Where georgette falls soft, organza is crisp and holds its shape, so the dupatta sits on the shoulder rather than slipping off it. Two fabrics, two jobs.

An all-black occasion suit

Black is the least common choice in Indian festive wear and, for that reason, one of the most effective. In a room of reds, golds and brights, it is the outfit people notice. It also does not date, does not clash with any jewellery you own, and carries from a wedding evening to a formal dinner to a milestone celebration.

This is an evening piece more than a daytime one — a wedding function, a reception, a sangeet, an anniversary dinner, a Diwali evening. It is available in black and in brown.

Care

Dry clean only. Do not iron directly over the embroidery. Hang the suit rather than folding it, and keep it away from rough jewellery that can catch the thread.

A note on colour and work

Natural variation in texture and embroidery placement is characteristic of this kind of work and is not a defect. Black photographs differently under different lighting, so the depth of the shade may read differently in hand than on screen.
