The resham work
Resham is thread embroidery — coloured thread worked into the fabric so it moves with the cloth rather than sitting stiffly on top of it. It gives a soft, flowing line, quite different from the flat glitter of sequins or the metallic weight of heavy zari. On ivory, resham reads as texture as much as decoration: you see the work in the way light falls across it rather than as a colour contrast shouting for attention.
Why ivory rather than white
Ivory is a warm off-white, and it behaves differently from a true white. It photographs more softly, it does not flatten under bright light the way white can, and it sits more kindly against gold jewellery. It is the shade most often chosen for occasions where you want to look considered rather than conspicuous — an engagement, a nikah or a wedding function where the bride is in colour, a formal reception, a milestone anniversary.
The fabric
The shirt and dupatta are organza — crisp and lightweight with a soft sheen, holding their shape rather than falling close to the body. That structure is what carries embroidery well: the fabric supports the weight of the thread work without pulling out of shape, and the raised texture of resham reads clearly against the smooth organza surface. The bottom is taffeta, which gives the stitched salwar or trouser a firmer drape.
Where to wear it
This is a formal piece rather than an everyday one. It suits a wedding function, an engagement, a reception, a sangeet, a milestone celebration, or a festive evening where you want to be properly dressed. Ivory also has a longer life than a strong colour — it is not tied to a season or a festival, so a suit stitched from this can be worn across years rather than remembered from one particular event.
Stitching this suit
The suit is supplied unstitched, so the neckline, sleeve length and fit are yours to decide. It can be stitched up to size 5XL. Organza is sheer and ivory is a pale shade, so a lining is worth planning from the start — most customers have the shirt lined, and the lining colour will affect how the ivory reads. Settle both with your tailor before work begins, along with where you want the embroidery to fall on the finished garment. StudioJazz offers a stitching service; share what you have in mind and we will discuss it with you. Unstitched orders are dispatched within 48 working hours; stitched orders take 7 to 15 working days depending on the work involved.
Care
Dry clean only. Ivory shows a mark more readily than a dark colour, so store the suit away from direct sunlight, which can yellow a pale fabric over time. Hang it rather than folding it, keep it away from rough jewellery that can catch the embroidery thread, and never iron directly over the work.
Shipping
Dispatched within 48 working hours of order confirmation and delivered across India in 3 to 7 business days. Free shipping on orders above Rs. 1,500 — this set qualifies. StudioJazz has shipped to 13 countries; international shipping is available on request.
A note on colour
Natural variation in colour, texture and embroidery placement is characteristic of this kind of fabric and is not a defect. Ivory in particular can read warmer or cooler depending on the light you see it in, and organza's sheen adds to that.
Frequently asked questions
What work is on this suit?
Resham thread embroidery — coloured thread worked into the fabric, giving a soft, flowing line rather than the flat shine of sequins.
What is resham?
Resham is thread embroidery. Because it is thread rather than metal or sequin, it moves with the fabric instead of sitting stiffly on top of it.
Is ivory the same as white?
No. Ivory is a warm off-white. It photographs more softly than a true white and sits more kindly against gold jewellery.
What are the pieces made of?
The shirt and dupatta are organza. The bottom is taffeta.
What's included and how much fabric?
Three pieces: organza shirt (2.5 m), taffeta bottom (2.5 m), organza dupatta (2.5 m) — 7.5 metres in total.
Does this need a lining?
Yes, in most cases. Organza is sheer and ivory is pale, so a lining is worth planning from the start. The lining colour will affect how the ivory reads, so choose it with your tailor.
Is this printed?
No. The decoration is resham thread embroidery, not a print.
Will ivory yellow over time?
Pale fabrics can yellow with prolonged exposure to sunlight. Store the suit away from direct light, in a cloth bag rather than plastic.
Is this suitable for a wedding?
Yes. Ivory with resham work is a common choice for a wedding function, engagement, nikah or reception — formal without competing with the bride.
Can this be stitched to my size?
It can be stitched up to size 5XL, and the neckline, sleeve length and fit are yours to choose.
Do you stitch it, and what does that cost?
Yes, StudioJazz offers stitching. Charges depend on the design and the amount of work involved — message us with what you have in mind and we will confirm the cost before you proceed.
Do you ship internationally?
StudioJazz has shipped to 13 countries. International shipping is available on request — message us with your location before ordering.
