Lavender Mul Cotton Applique Suit

This is a lavender mul cotton suit with applique work, supplied as a 3-piece set with a matching mul cotton dupatta and a santoon bottom. It is stitchable to your own measurement up to size 5XL.

What you receive

  • Shirt — mul cotton, with applique work, 2.5 m
  • Dupatta — mul cotton, 2.5 m
  • Bottom — santoon, 2.5 m
  • 3-piece unstitched set, 7.5 metres in total

What applique work is

Applique is the technique of cutting shapes from one fabric and stitching them onto another to build a motif. It is slower than printing or embroidery — each piece is cut, positioned and stitched down individually — and it gives a result you can feel as well as see: raised edges, layered texture, and a definition no printed motif reproduces.

Where embroidery adds thread to a surface, applique adds cloth to cloth. That is why an applique piece has more physical presence than a printed one, and why the cost sits in the hours of work rather than in the metres of fabric.

Applique on mul cotton

Mul is a soft, light, breathable cotton weave — the fabric you reach for when the day is long and warm. Pairing it with applique does something unusual: most suits with this much surface work sit on organza or silk, which look considerable but wear hot.

Here the decoration is substantial and the base is not. You get a suit that reads as an occasion piece and still breathes through an afternoon in the sun, which is a combination the catalogue does not offer often.

Lavender

Lavender is a soft, cool purple — gentler than a jamun or a deep violet, and unusual enough in ethnic wear that it does not blend into a room full of reds and golds. It sits well with silver and with oxidised jewellery, and it photographs particularly cleanly in daylight, where stronger purples can go flat.

Where to wear it

A daytime piece rather than an evening one. It suits a summer function, a mehendi or haldi, a family lunch, a daytime wedding event, a Gurudwara Sahib visit, a kitty party or an office festive day. The applique lifts it enough for an occasion; the mul keeps it wearable through a long one.

Stitching this suit

The suit is supplied unstitched, so the neckline, sleeve length and fit are yours to decide. It can be stitched up to size 5XL. Mul is soft and moves well, so it takes both a flowing A-line and a straight-cut shape comfortably. Decide with your tailor before cutting where the applique motifs should fall on the finished shirt — they are fixed on the fabric, so the cut determines everything. StudioJazz offers a stitching service; share what you have in mind and we will discuss it with you. Unstitched orders are dispatched within 48 working hours; stitched orders take 7 to 15 working days depending on the work involved.

Care

Dry clean only. Applique is stitched fabric, so avoid ironing directly over the motifs and do not pull or wring the cloth — tugging can loosen the stitching that holds the shapes in place. Store in shade; lavender is a pale shade and shows fading sooner than a dark one.

Shipping

Dispatched within 48 working hours of order confirmation and delivered across India in 3 to 7 business days. Free shipping on orders above Rs. 1,500 — this set qualifies. StudioJazz has shipped to 13 countries; international shipping is available on request.

A note on colour and work

Natural variation in colour, texture and applique placement is characteristic of this kind of work and is not a defect. Because applique is cut and stitched piece by piece, small differences between one suit and the next are inherent to the technique.

Frequently asked questions

What is applique work?

Applique is the technique of cutting shapes from one fabric and stitching them onto another to build a motif. It gives raised, layered texture rather than a flat printed surface.

How is applique different from embroidery?

Embroidery adds thread to a fabric. Applique adds fabric to fabric — cut shapes stitched down onto the base cloth — so the result has more physical presence and body.

Is this printed at all?

No. The decoration is applique work.

What are the three pieces made of?

The shirt and dupatta are mul cotton. The bottom is santoon.

What is mul cotton?

Mul is a soft, light, breathable cotton weave. It sits gently against the skin and stays comfortable through a long day in warm weather.

What is santoon?

Santoon is a soft, smooth fabric with an easy fall, commonly used for the bottom of a suit because it stitches and drapes well.

Is this comfortable in summer?

Yes. Mul cotton is breathable, which makes this more wearable in heat than most suits carrying this much surface work — applique usually sits on organza or silk, which look considerable but wear hot.

What's included and how much fabric?

Three pieces of 2.5 metres each — shirt, bottom and dupatta — 7.5 metres in total.

Where will the applique motifs sit on my stitched suit?

That depends on how it is cut. The motifs are fixed on the fabric, so decide placement with your tailor before cutting begins.

How do I care for applique?

Dry clean only. Do not iron directly over the motifs, and avoid pulling or wringing the fabric, as tugging can loosen the stitching.

Can this be stitched to my size?

It can be stitched up to size 5XL, and the neckline, sleeve length and fit are yours to choose.

Do you stitch it, and what does that cost?

Yes, StudioJazz offers stitching. Charges depend on the design and the amount of work involved — message us and we will confirm the cost before you proceed.

Do you ship internationally?

StudioJazz has shipped to 13 countries. International shipping is available on request — message us with your location before ordering.
